Detoxification

Our bodies are exposed to toxins daily. Some naturally produced by our bodies, while others enter the body through the environment and diet. The entry of toxins such as pollution, secondhand smoke and chemicals is often beyond our control, but excessive intake of alcohol, caffeine and processed foods is within our control. In addition, certain occupations such as hairdressing, plumbing and building involve regular chemical exposure and this greatly increases toxic risk. Detoxification then becomes extremely important in these professions to develop toxin resistance to assist in coping with regular chemical exposure.

Whatever your lifestyle or occupation, if you feel you need a detox program, please don’t try to create it yourself, consult your practitioner who will prepare and supervise a

personalised program for you.

Whilst you are contemplating or preparing to start a detox program, here are some safe and simple ways to reduce your toxin levels and support your metabolism as it rids the body of toxins on a daily basis.

  • Stay nourished by consuming a predominantly plant-based diet containing fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes and whole grains. These foods are high in antioxidants.

  • Stay hydrated to aid digestion, support energy levels and allow your kidneys to flush out toxins. Drink 2-3 litres of water daily. In addition, green tea, green juices and the juice of half a lemon in warm water on rising will aid detoxification.

  • Avoid or reduce intake of alcohol, caffeine and processed foods.

  • Clean your home and car with chemical-free cleaning products.

  • Exercise for 30-40 minutes daily, ensuring strength training on two days per week. Sweating allows the toxins in our blood to release via our sweat glands.

  • Dry skin brushing 5-10 minutes before your bath or shower is a wonderful way to remove toxins by shedding dead skin cells.

  • Sleep! Our body is busy while we are asleep recycling and removing our waste substances. Quality sleep aids the processes.
